NFC card on iPhone and Android: how it is read

Image

An NFC digital business card can be read by almost every modern smartphone, no app needed. There are small differences between iPhone and Android. Here is how it works on each.

NFC card on iPhone

  • From iPhone XS / XR onwards, the iPhone reads NFC in the background: the screen just needs to be on and unlocked.
  • Tap the card on the top of the back, near the cameras, where the NFC antenna is.
  • A notification with the link appears: tap it to open the profile.
  • Older models (iPhone 7 to X) need the "NFC Tag Reader" from Control Center.

NFC card on Android

  • Make sure NFC is switched on: Settings → Connected devices (or Connections) → NFC.
  • The antenna is usually in the centre of the back.
  • The screen must be unlocked. The profile opens automatically in the browser.

If the card doesn't open

  1. Unlock the screen and try again.
  2. Move the card slowly across the back of the phone to find the antenna.
  3. Remove a thick or metal case.
  4. On Android, check that NFC is on.
  5. If the phone has no NFC, scan the card's QR code with the camera.

Why every TagTouch card also has a QR code

The QR code covers any phone without NFC or with NFC switched off, so your profile always opens, whatever phone the other person has.

Choose your card

All TagTouch cards work on iPhone and Android: PVC and wooden NFC cards, metal NFC cards and NFC phone tags.
